Munkácsy Mihály Magyar Ház (EN: The Hungarian House of Michaly Munkacsy) – is a historic landmark in the heart of Mukachevo, a town in the west of Ukraine. The building also functions as a culture hub, museum and gallery.

Many ethnic Hungarians live in this region of the country. One of the organization's main goals is to help preserve Hungarian cultural and ethnic heritage.

It was time they updated their logo and established an identity consistent with their unique purpose: to share the treasures of Hungarian culture with everyone.

The Target Audience

Magyar Ház's doors are open for everyone. It’s where ethnic Hungarians can learn about their roots, where artists of the region and from all over Ukraine can make an impact by displaying their work, and where the local community at large can enjoy some high-quality leisure time.

They offer numerous cultural programs and events, such as exhibitions, concerts, workshops etc., for all age groups in both Hungarian and Ukrainian languages.

The Process

This beautiful building is of historical significance and I wanted to honour it in the new visual identity

The rebrand

The logo had to be executed in Ukrainian and Hungarian languages, considering the Target Audience speaks either or both.

The letter “M” is the nod to both: Munkácsy Mihály – a renowned Hungarian painter to whom this building is dedicated, and Mukachevo – the town where he was born and where the landmark is located

Style Explorations

Classical architecture and art that transcend eras, became the main source of inspiration and creative exploration

The identity

The open doorway communicates the main brand message – everyone is welcome

Primary Logo:
Colours & Variations

Oval – is a shape that allows to seamlessly unite the two languages

Colour palette

The pastel colour theme is inspired by the beautiful nature of the Carpathian Mountains and the architectural styles of the region

Typography

Priority for the choice of typography was: legibility and a classy feel

Application

A new identity allows room for creative exploration and interpretation of how it can be applied across different domains of the brand

The homepage: bringing every aspect of the new identity together
